Letang's fitness really allows for this to be more palatable.
He is the best option--RH defensemen of his ability dont grow on trees |

Sign him and don't be cheap about it.
Realistically, in 3 or 4 years what do you think a good 2nd pairing guy will get? Right now a lot of good 2nd pair, not #1 D studs, just good 2nd paring guys are getting anywhere from 3.5 to 4.5ish mill a season. In 3 or 4 years, if the cap keeps going up, what do you think they will be getting? 4.5 to 5.5ish?
My point is Letang is still a number #1 stud. If he signed for 8 mill per year its only a 750k difference in the Pens cap situation compared to his current hit and he might not be that far off in terms of cap hit over younger 2nd pair guys/2nd pair market value. Of course, his level of play could totally drop off a cliff but I suspect it wont be a drastic decline. |

Pay that man his money. - Grinder47
Agreed. Paying him $8M isn't a huge raise from what he's making now and will have minimal impact to the cap. The alternative to not signing him is basically a rebuild considering the options.

Sign him He eats minutes and is a fitness nut. You will not have to worry about his loyalty and he will do what you need to be done. There are a lot less desirable choices out there With Kris you know what you are getting and that ain't bad |

This. The best UFA Right D is probably Klingberg and he isn't on Letang's level. Marino isn't a number 1 D. Just sign the man. |

Yup, and Klingberg will likely get overpaid in a bidding war because of the market.

I dont mind 8 mill but really, with how he's producing, his market value might be higher. Would you be fine with 9/9.5 mill per?

At that point it would be a problem of the Pens. They're already in cap hell with decisions to make on Malkin, Rust, ERod and Heinen. I'm not saying he isn't worth it, but the ripple-effect of holes it would create throughout the rest of the lineup probably makes this team worse.

I've said this before, but I don't think enough is being made about how good Ruhwedel has been. |

So when are we trading for McDavid? We know how to treat superstars. |

Him and Matheson have great underlying numbers, but aren't getting the goals. They are the opposite of the Petts-Marino pairing. |

Hahah right? If he keeps pace with Fox, Hedman and Makar he might finally get it. I think Makar and Fox will continue to separate themselves with everyone else, but like they did with Fleury last year, if Letang keeps him self in the top three, he could get his "honorary" award this year.

I wish, he definitely deserved to have won one by now, but this season won't be it. Makar's goal scoring and point pace already have him as the favorite. I doubt he falls off enough for Letang to sneak into the top 3. |

I think Letang has a chance to sneak in behind Makar and Fox. He'll be battling Hedman and Josi for that final spot. Fleury really didn't deserve it last year. He was #3 in every category, but he got the career recognition votes and Letang could very well get the same.

Rust back on the active roster, Bjorkqvist and Zohorna no longer listed according to Rorabaugh. Zohorna looked good the other night too. |

No way he gets it, imo. 6th in points definitely ain't getting it. I don't think Fleury's was honorary, he was deserving. |

Wow, O'Connor to LTIR. - burgh4life87
Just saw that, but hey, at least it looks like Rust and Zucker likely draw back in tonight. I'm curious to see who Geno's RW will be.

It's gonna be Zucker and Kapanen. Boyle skated between them yesterday. Malkin is just gonna slide right in. |
